There are a lot of misconceptions about manifesting and the law of attraction. I’m not claiming to be an expert by any means, I struggle with it quite a lot. I do, however, realize at some point what I’ve done wrong and I don’t love using the word wrong. I would prefer to see it as something I can improve on or something that could be approached differently.
The biggest issue that many people seemed to have with manifesting is the lie that they don’t have to work for it or they don’t have to work harder for it. It isn’t always the case that we have to work harder in the traditional sense, but sometimes that is true. Unless you’re super lucky at say the lottery then you probably aren’t going to wake up rich in the morning. Sometimes working harder means working harder mentally, working on your headspace. If you let doubt creep in anywhere whispering in the back of your mind…I can’t, I can’t, that’s the soundtrack not only you hear, but the universe.

The thoughts ruminating in the background are like a record skipping over and over and it is the soundtrack the universe hears. It sends that signal out onto the main network and it runs through all the lines. Let’s say you have thirty I can’t thoughts per minute and only one I can think about which signal is relayed more. Your soundtrack to your life has become I can’t and the random few and far between positive mantras you kick out, don’t even register on the universal phone line. Those positive mantras are static in the midst of the main tune you’re playing.
If you spend twenty days out of thirty being defeated, you aren’t turning that ship around with ten nonconsecutive days of being determined. A lot of self-doubts happen in the subconscious space of our minds. The background noise speaks louder to our actions and beliefs and determination than we give it credit for. Manifesting is so dependent on the mental work that is where the largest amount of work has to go every single day. We say nasty hateful things to ourselves in our internal dialogue that we wouldn’t ever say to another person. We pick our physical appearance apart, our capabilities until we believe it. In order for manifesting to ever have a chance to work there has to be a true reprogramming of thought that occurs and that doesn’t happen quickly.
All too often I think people approach manifesting the same way that people approach the New Year’s resolution to lose weight. They go all-in for a little while and start falling slowly back into bad habits, they don’t see results quickly enough or the results they wanted right then, so they give up. They quit and find excuses for why it wasn’t working and then they get nowhere. It is the same concept of trying to use the law of attraction for a book deal when you haven’t even started writing it. You do not get something from nothing. Life and results don’t always happen on your terms.
Another issue is a lot of us cannot believe and perceive something as if it is already yours or that it has already happened. We are also way too big on the whole instant gratification thing especially in the U.S., hello, we can’t wait for two-day shipping, ugh I want it in one day, such an inconvenience. The Law of attraction doesn’t work on your instant gratification timeline. It takes persistence and consistency. It takes more than one meditation a day or week a nighttime prayer, a daily list. Stop reciting, we can all read words without truly soaking them in, just ask college students. They can’t remember the stuff they crammed to pass that test two days ago. They read it many times. Besides reading and believing are not one in the same.

Stop giving yourself unrealistic timeframes. Ditch the all or nothing attitudes, there are endless places in between that sometimes are necessary. You don’t start at the finish line, you end up there. How many times have you seen a race where the runner falls gets way behind and instead of staying down they get up and fight with everything they have and they beat the odds? If you want to manifest you need that mindset that determination, you have got to be that runner. Don’t be the one that looks ahead in defeat cries and then falls down and grabs their ankle. They took an out plain and simple. That is what the countless excuses are we give ourselves, that is what we do to ourselves.
Have you ever watched a high school football game where there is always one kid there purely out of ego? They take a hit, not even a bad hit and they overdramatically lay on the field, stall out the game, everyone watches, they get cheered for standing and limp over to sidelines, and then make a huge miraculous full recovery by the next big play. Everyone cheers for him getting back in the game. That guy is there for the attention for cheers, and he isn’t really an asset to his teammates. His career ends at high school and his teammate that took a real hit and played through it without the cheers he gets the scholarship. The point is if ego is driving your manifesting in any way, you might get some praise along the way, but temporary applause doesn’t actually get you anywhere. Stop relying on others to motivate you and cheer you on, you have to do that for yourself.
Last but not least, show gratitude. Be grateful for what you already have. Acknowledge everything you have accomplished. The universe isn’t fond of an ungrateful attitude. If you are a parent and have children, you know all too well that you are less willing to reward ungrateful attitudes and entitled behavior. The Universe works the same way if you want to throw a tantrum and get mad about not getting your way, kick and scream about how unfair everything is well it will be happy to leave you to it.
