Mountain Magic

I was sleeping well until a neighbor let their dog out and it had a close encounter with a skunk. The open bedroom window meant for fresh air became not so fresh. It’s getting that time of year where the evening breeze is just the right amount of cool. I love the fresh air, I started sleeping with the window open a year ago and now I struggle to sleep with it closed. Is it possible to become addicted to fresh air? I know some places don’t have fresh clean air in the first place and I am lucky to live in the country with nature and trees.

I love these mountains, I live in the Appalachians. They are not as big as some other mountain ranges, given their age and as much as they have eroded over time. I wonder what they looked like back when they were young. They still have breathtaking views, one of my favorite places is White Top. A place where you sit nestled in the clouds with a view for miles and miles. It has such amazing sunsets, they are colorful and shifting. It’s like a sunset show. It’s a great place to regroup and just get away for a bit. The night sky is almost unreal just stars for miles. It’s one of my favorite places.

I have been known to disappear for the entire day to sit on the mountain top. Laying back in my seat, windows down, and reading a book in the clouds. Small naps as the wind picks up and gently rocks my car from side to side. It has little magical nooks surrounded by trees and forest ground of soft moss. Rocks that are perfect for sitting on. Tiny streams for some extra relaxing sounds. The wind makes it perfect for flying a kite. It’s so hard to leave once you get there.

I was born and raised in the smallest of towns in Southwest Virginia. A town that is extraordinarily active, yet a town that is like it's very own little mini Bible belt. My dad was Baptist, my mom pentecostal, and I'm paranormal. I would venture to say it is somewhat of a family trait. One that is met with equal acceptance and curiosity as much as it is met with skepticism. Individually and collectively so much has been experienced and witnessed at times to such a degree that one might wonder how on earth there is room for doubt. I dont have all the answers, I do not have it all figured out. Im as human as everyone else relying heavily many mornings on a lot of coffee and a little Jesus. In fact, I can't decide what I want for dinner most days. One constant is I cannot go a single day without chocolate. Pour a cup of coffee, or a little tea and whiskey and join me in my confessions of a haunted freak.
