Why do we have some of the most profound thoughts, contemplation, and theories in the wee hours? Here’s my guess, I believe it is because of the brainwave state we are in. We are tired and sleepy, giving way to a state similar to meditation and perfect for channeling or tapping in. It is easier for us to be open to receiving information from the universe.
I also think that is one of the reasons behind the old advice, just sleep on it. Not only does it serve to calm you down but it also gives you time to figure things out. Have you ever noticed how so many people solve problems when they can’t sleep or even in their dreams? How many stories have you heard where someone randomly gets an idea when they have insomnia and it turns into something incredible. How many times have you heard of a novel starting based on a dream or in those sleepless nights the creative madness strikes?
Some artists do their best work when they can’t sleep or in the wee morning hours. A lot of people call it the witching hours but I believe it is the hours of genius and inspiration. I like to call it creative madness because there is chaos and madness to it when you are so tired. The inspiration does seem to flow and many people recommend keeping a recorder nearby for those writers who wake up with inspiration or while they lay sleepless in their beds because creativity may strike. I have had some great ideas when I’m zoned out driving on autopilot because it is a sort of meditation state. I have had ideas for paintings pop in my head at 3 am and I think it is a way of channeling. I have some paintings I refer to as my channeled pieces, they are much different than those thought out or planned in some way. If you are gonna be sleepless you may as well use those creative juices to your advantage. I won’t say you only live once, but I will say you most likely only live once as this version of you in this life you have now. I’ve known many people who would say I will sleep when I am dead and they just never slow down. Life is for living, it is up to us individually to define what living is to us.
If you find yourself awake and unable to sleep don’t fight it, let the creative madness kick in. Listen to your thoughts and inspiration. You never know, you may come up with the next million-dollar idea or best-selling novel. Ideas aren’t planted in those who can’t grow them.
